If you happen to see the UFO travelling overhead but miss it with your slingshot you can get a second (or third) try at it. Simply note the time that it passed overhead and then go back in time, slingshot in hand and wait for the UFO to reappear. Going back in time is as simple as resetting the clock on your DS to the desired time. In order for this to work you first have to go back in time to the previous day and then go to the time slot the UFO appeared.
